Yummy Strawberry Line

Yummy is a completely new brand to me, although it does bear a resemblance to, for example, Philosophy and I Love… products. There are five yummy scents of their products available: Chocolate, Vanilla, Forest Fruits, Coconut and, of course, Strawberry. I have to say all the scents sound very appealing to me and I like it when it's supposed to smell like one thing, rather than when two or more things are mixed together.

Moram priznati, da nisem nikoli slišala za znamko Yummy, čeprav sledi podobnemu konceptu kot izdelki znamk I Love… in Philosophy. Njihovi izdelki imajo privlačne in slastne vonje po vanilji, gozdnih sadežih, kokosu, čokoladi in seveda jagodah. Prav vsi vonji mi zvenijo zanimivo, pa ponavadi ni tako in všeč mi je, da imajo vonje z eno noto, saj mi razne mešanice dveh ali več vonjev velikokrat niso všeč. 

 The strawberry line smells delicious. If you're familiar with the scent of Milka chocolate with strawberry yoghurt filling - yes, these smell exactly like that. They also cause the strongest craving for that particular chocolate and they really should include Milka as a gift with purchase.

Jagodna linija diši prekrasno. Vonj lahko najbolje opišem s tem da ga primerjam z Milko z jagodnim jogurtom (ena izmed mojih najljubših) - na moji koži dišijo identično tej čokoladi. Seveda si potem strašno zaželim čokolade, zraven teh izdelkov bi resno morali dodati še brezplačno Milko. 

Yummy Strawberry Body Butter

This is my absolute favourite product in the bunch. Upon opening the pot the first time, I was afraid it might be a light, yoghurt type of texture, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the fantastic, thick yet creamy texture that is easy to apply and moisturises very well. So you smell like strawberries and your skin is moisturised - I call that a clear win-win. The thick texture also means that it takes times to sink in, so those who dislike the greasy feeling might want to use this before going to bed. Maslo za telo je moj najljubši izdelek v tej kolekciji. Ko sem prvič odprla posodico sem se malo ustrašila, da bo tekstura prelahka, ker na prvi pogled izgleda kot jogurt, ampak sem bila pozitivno presenečena nad gostejšo, vendar vseeno lahko mazljivo teksturo, ki odlično nahrani kožo. Torej dišiš kot jagodna čokolada pa še koža se počuti super. Se pa zaradi te gostejše teksture dalj časa vpija, zato je bolj primerno za uporabo zvečer. Sestavine lahko vidite tukaj.

 Yummy Strawberry Hand Cream

Hand cream is something I almost never use because I just never feel as though my hands need to be moisturised during the day and I hate the greasy feeling. I moisturise my body before going to bed and that includes the hands, but I don't use a specified product, just a regular body butter. This one is one of those hand creams that is somewhere between a thick lotion and a cream, so it's not the one that would sink in quickly (at least as far my preferences go). I prefer to apply this before going to bed, rather than using it during the day when I'm constantly behind the keyboard, or ironing or doing any other things. It does moisturise well, but it is not an intensive care kind of product. Of course, it smells fantastic just as the body butter. Ingredients.

Krema za roke je izdelek, ki ga prav šokantno zanemarjam. Pač se mi nikoli ne zdi, da so moje roke suhe, pa še tistega mastnega filma na rokah ne maram, saj imam potrpljenje štiriletnega otroka. Nega rok pride na vrsto takrat ko nanašam kremo za telo in ne uporabljam posebne verzije samo za roke. Yummy krema za roke je kar gosta, čeprav ne pretirano, ampak je ena izmed tistih, ki ne vpije hitro, zato jo raje nanesem zvečer preden grem spat in ne sredi dneva, ko sem stalno za računalnikom ali npr. likam in opravljam ostala opravila. Kožo dovolj nahrani, vseeno pa to ni intenzivna nega. Diši pa enako božansko kot maslo za telo, pravzaprav me ta krema malo spominja na tisto Essence kremo za roke Strawberry Cream Cupcake, ki je bila del omejene izdaje nekaj let nazaj.  Yummy Strawberry Shower Gel

First of, the bottle is huge. It holds 500 ml of shower gel, which is very convenient as it means you won't have to repurchase it in a couple of weeks. The texture of it is very runny and it forms quite a "bare" foam, but nonetheless it serves it's purpose well and obviously smells lovely, though it has an ever so slightly different scent as the other two products (it's still obviously strawberry). It doesn't dry out my skin, but rare shower gels do. My bottle is running low very quickly and I suspect someone is stealing it, so it's popular even among the rest of the residents in my household. Naj začnem s tem, da je embalaža ogromna, saj drži pol litra gela za tuširanje, kar je velika prednost, saj ni potrebno tako pogosto kupovati novega. Je zelo tekoč gel za prhanje in se manj peni kot večina, ampak vseeno opravi svoje delo. Seveda diši super, čeprav ima malenkost drugačen vonj kot obe kremi, je pa še vedno očitno jagoden vonj. Gel ne izsušuje moje kože, ampak že tako jo redkokateri. Sestavine lahko najdete tukaj.

The body butter is definitely wonderful, while the hand cream is average as is the shower gel, though they both do their jobs well and they all smell fantastic. I don't know where this is available to purchase outside of Slovenia, but it is a German brand.

The Secrets of Blogging Tag

I saw this tag on Kate Spitz's blog and I though it was interesting, so here we go:


1. When did you start blogging and why?

I started almost four years ago on 21.9.2010, which is my name day if you know what that is (it's a sort of a holiday for all people sharing the same name or a variation of it. In my case it's Saint Matthew's day, or Matej in Slovene. Mateja is obviously the female version). It's the second most important day to me after my birthday and I usually even bake a cake, hahaha. I've been a beauty enthusiast for years and posted a lot of swatches on different forums and websites, so I decided to gather it all together in one place and the blog was born. There is also another, much darker reason, of which I'm not prepared to speak of yet, but it was the tipping point which nudged me to finally create a blog after months of toying with the idea. It was probably one of the best decisions I made so far.

2. How many people in "real life" know about your blog?

Not a lot. I keep it private to avoid strange looks and judgemental comments for doing something I imagine a lot of people consider shallow and trivial, even though it's clear it gives me immense pleasure. My family knows, as do a limited number of my friends, but since I hit that million views my mom has been spreading the word about my blog like there is not tomorrow - I'm not sure I like that as I prefer it when someone more or less stumbles upon my blog because they are genuinely interested in cosmetics and beauty.

3. What are your favourite posts to read?

There are so many, but obviously beauty related posts. Anything about hair gets me excited, favourites, budget choices, lip product swatches and new ins. But honestly, I read so many things and I save my favourite posts either on Pinterest or Bloglovin'.

4. List a blog you have discovered recently.

Feel Bella. I think she started following me first through Bloglovin' and that's how I found her (yes, I always check out the blogs of my followers, but it does bother me if you "pressure me" into checking it out, I prefer to find them myself). I just really like her content, she basically has a blog that is just up my alley and she deserves a lot more attention. I immediately put her on my favourite blogs list when I found her that's how impressed I was.

Another recent discovery that I love is Minnebelle who has fantastic photos and reviews. She immediately became a source of inspiration to me.

5. Which posts are you most proud of?

A lot of them - well, those from about a year and a half ago on. I put a lot of work into a post - taking millions of pictures, selecting the best ones, editing them, then of course writing reviews and rereading the text at least five times to avoid spelling errors, etc. Actually, I love going through old posts, I'm truly happy with how it looks, but my favourites would be My Tips for Dealing with Dry Hair and How to Curl Stubborn and Difficult-to-Curl Lashes

6. What advice would you give to future bloggers?

Do not concern yourself with numbers, don't look at the statistic all the time or if anyone commented every five seconds. Write about what you like and when you want. Don't expect many press samples. I get so many e-mails asking me how to get press samples and if that's why you're starting out blogging, you're doing it for the wrong reasons. Honestly I refuse 80% of offered products and mostly accept only ones from Slovene companies because I want to help them. 

Ok, I'll give you some real tips now: 

- Do nice pictures. I don't mean you need an expensive camera and a set up, I take pictures with my phone (Galaxy S2) in a very amateur set up and they are fine. Do edit them by adjusting levels, brightness, vibrancy and colours if needed, lighter pictures look so much better. 

- Please post big pictures. It's so difficult to see the products from small pictures on my huge screen. It is 2014 after all. 

- Widen your blog layout and add buttons or widgets where to follow you on an easily visible place. I suggest you add your blog on Bloglovin', it's the easiest way to follow someone.

- You don't need to purchase a template. Everything about how to edit it or create your own is online, you just have to google stuff. I suggest you have a nice, clean and simple design rather than something ornate.

- Another very important thing - use spell check. Seriously. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the most basic spelling errors (the past tense of pay is paid, not payed. Ok people?). Chrome has a built-in spell check, just go to Settings (expanded version) - Languages - Language settings and set it to whichever language you write in. Also consider googling phrases that you're not certain about and those who want a more advanced level of language in their posts should try using a thesaurus as well as a collocations dictionary. Forgive me for being a grammar nazi, I'm very aware that I'm not perfect myself, but I read through my posts at least five times before posting to avoid errors.
 - Please try to avoid doing a one-picture-plus-a-bit-of-text reviews of products (at least when makeup is concerned). The beauty community got so lazy lately and there is a slew of such blogs, but I'm someone who wants to know details about a product, see swatches and see how a product actually looks on a human (I think lipstick swatches on paper are just the worst). 

- This is just a suggestion, but I write my posts in OneNote, where I write my impressions and notes about products, see how the pictures look before uploading them on the blog, then from that draft do a full review or a post. I almost never write a post that I intend to post right away, rather I read what I wrote again the next day or later, so it's easier to spot mistakes or I might add/remove something.

- And one last thing - be patient. You won't be a successful blogger overnight. Hell, I've been blogging for four years and I don't consider myself successful - I don't mind that at all.

Things I Took with me on a Holiday

Those who follow me on Instagram or Facebook might already know that I was on a quick holiday the past week. It was a frantic packing before I left, more reminiscent of throwing the stuff in my makeup bag rather than careful packing because I was really pressed for time. I regret not taking more lipsticks with me as well as the Max Factor Primer, but I used every bit I packed with me. I actually wore a lot of makeup there, not because I desperately need it, but because I love that part of the morning when you get up, watch some Youtube videos, tv series or a documentary and just slowly apply makeup - it's one of my favourite parts of the day.

L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer

Dubbed as the YSL Touche Éclat approximate (yes, I'm aware it's an odd word to use, but I wont' call it dupe because I never owned TE), this pen has very mixed reviews, with some people absolutely loving it and some finding it completely useless. I put it on my wishlist a very long time ago, but pondered afterwards whether to really take the plunge and buy it due to these conflicting opinions. One thing is very clear about this product - despite the name, it is absolutely not a concealer. It is a highlighting pen with light reflecting particles that disguise darkness under the eyes and lift the complexion by illuminating it. I must admit, I was quite perplexed by this pen and still am as I find it doesn't really make a massive difference when I'm applying it, but seeing now from the before and after pictures I've made for this post, there actually might be something about it, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

The formula is very light and doesn't offer much coverage, but hearing the words: "if you're using Touche Éclat as a concealer, you are doing it wrong" repeated in the beauty community, oh, so many times, I was very aware that this as well is not a stand alone product to use. I use a separate concealer under it that actually covers and then put this on top in the popular triangle shape under the eyes, avoiding the area right under the lashes. It's also supposed to be used on the high points of the face, so tops of cheekbones, bridge of the nose and cupid's bow. The first thing that made me to doubt its illuminating capabilities is the shade. Though it is light and peachy toned, it's not exactly light for me, meaning that's it's very close to my skin colour rather than a bit lighter, which I associate with illumination and I detect no illuminating particles in it like ones in their Lumi Magique Primer for example. 

Given how pale I naturally am, this also means that on anyone who is NC20 and darker this should look lighter. On the pictures I am using L'Oreal's Nude Maqiue eau de Teint foundation in 100 Porcelain, which is about NC20-25/Bourjois HMS 52-53, and Maybelline Fit Me concealer in Fair, which you can see from the swatches is anything but fair, so that illumination is more apparent.

Happy face! By the way on the lips I'm wearing Essence XXXL Longlasting lipgloss in 15 Coral Mousse.

The packaging is a rose gold metal-look click pen that works well, but collects dirt and fingerprints like there is no tomorrow. As at Bourjois CC Eye Cream there is a mere 1.5 ml of product inside which is a bloody rip off. However, for comparison Touche Eclat has 2.5 ml - again not a lot, which begs the question: what the hell are we paying for at all these pens? 

I got mine from Boots International, but it's sold in drugstores, obviously not ones in Slovenia (is anyone really surprised any more?). Slovene's can get it on Salma. 

As I said above, I'm not entirely convinced by this product. When applying it, I just don't notice a considerable difference, but the pictures tell a slightly different story or at least I think so. What do you think? Is it a noticeable enough difference that justifies owning this product? NARS's Chantilly, which is much lighter, makes a much more apparent illuminating effect for me, hence why I use it more often.

essence all about matt! fixing compact powder

I've been putting off posting a review for this powder, in fact it's been in my drafts for three months now, but the first months of use left me with such a bad impression that the review would be very negative, so I waited for warmer months when my skin is a bit oilier compared to the rest of the year because I hoped it would perform better then. Before I found my beloved Bourjois Java powder, I purchased this to try first and to serve as a replacement for MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish, which I've grown to dislike because it always gives me either cakey look or nothing when I use a small amount. Essence's powder comes highly recommended and is a darling in the beauty community praised for its great mattifying abilities and affordability. However, I have found it anything but fantastic.

For the first few uses I though it was an ok powder, but with each use my displease grew. It does what it claims to do - mattifies and it does that quite well, however, my problem is with how it does it. I find it has several sides - one of how it looks over a foundation, one on bare skin and on a summer version of my skin.

On a "normal" version of my skin, over foundation it just makes the makeup look so flat and it's so obvious on the face. I don't even find it all that transparent, since I can see a slight white cast on my skin when I look at it closely and I'm not the one to use a ton of product. For me it just ruins the foundation by making it cakey and it's obvious from the space that I'm wearing something. I want my natural skin texture to show, so this does not work for me. Even if I use a super fluffy brush the effect is the same and if I try to use a very small amount of powder, it doesn't mattify nor set the makeup well. In general it mattifies well if you apply enough, but I get shiny in on my T-zone after about four to five hours.

In hotter months it is a different story for me. It works a lot better, doesn't look that obvious on the skin than in colder months and sets the makeup in place as well as mattifies, however, the makeup still looks a bit flat.

On bare skin, however, it looks great. I sometimes like to powder my skin when I'm not wearing foundation or I'm just wearing sunscreen to keep the shine away during the day and it look really nicely matte, but not flat.

This is a well loved product in the beauty community and many oily-skinned people love this, so please don't let my opinion discourage you from an affordable drugstore powder. I've actually tried it on other people and it looked very decent from which I've drawn a conclusion it must be my skin that doesn't comply with this powder. At Bourjois Java powder I see myself in the mirror after a few hours and I'm shocked at how great my skin looks, but with this it's just meh. I think the loose version must have been better, but essence discontinued it (obviously. It's what they do. Amiright?).

Makeup Revolution No Good Waiting

No Good Waiting is a frosty copper shade that is completely out of my comfort zone. It's a brownish colour of which I am not a fan of, especially when I was looking at it in the bottle, though on the nails it's a lot more copper. This is a shade I would imagine more mature people wearing, but as you know colours are subjective. 

It has an average frost formula meaning that the first layer is sheer or semi-opaque and then the second coat is fully opaque, though I always do thick layers and those who do thin might need to apply three. Regarding staying power I notice nothing different than at any other nail polish on me, it lasts the same amount of time as most.

  BATISTE Dry Shampoo Tropical

I must say that I completely get why Batiste is so popular and it has fast become one of my favourite formula of dry shampoos. It's not white (except if you apply it on one spot too close), it really refreshes the hair well and it doesn't leave too much of the powdery residue. I had the massive 400 ml can of Tropical version, which smells like coconut bread or coconut pastry and personally I'd prefer something more Rafaello like, but it's all right.

Repurchase: Batiste dry shampoos in general - yes (currently I have the Wild version). Tropical version: Maybe.

SEXY HEALTHY HAIR Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner

I've often sang praises about this hair hero and for good reason. It has come to a point where the mere though of being without for a single wash is almost unbearable. I am being dramatic or what? But in all seriousness, I find it a brilliant product that nourishes my hair, keeps it hydrated longer, reduces frizz and it has made my hair a lot more healthy since I started using it - a fact even my hairdresser noticed. I should also note that it's extremely light-weight, so I would recommend this to pretty much all hair types. I've been using it after every wash without fail on damp hair and one bottle lasted me about a year - at about 12 € per bottle (on Beauty Bay) I consider this a bargain.

Repurchase: Already did.

KÉRASTASE Nutritive Bain Oléo-Relax Smoothing Shampoo

Now this is what every shampoo should be like. It's the one shampoo that I consider as being exceptional and well worth the price. My hair is dry, as I've often complained, and this is like a shampoo plus conditioner in one in a sense that it leaves my hair clean, yet nourished, untangled and smooth. The scent does become a bit annoying with frequent use because it is one of those that has a sharp, potentially headache-inducing note in it, but it's worth putting up with it. I currently have Elixir Ultime version and Oléo-Relax is much better for my hair type.

Repurchase: Without a doubt.

MORROCANOIL Treatment Original 

As I've said in my Hair Oil series, I find there is very little difference between this one, Macadamia oil and Orofluido. All three are seriously good and I believe the main difference is just in the scent as well as the price. This one has my least favourite scent out of the three because it's sort of a generic fabric softener type of scent and I much prefer the rich, oriental version of Orofluido (which is also cheaper). 

Repurchase: Maybe, but I prefer Orofluido.

 BALEA Carambola Lambada Dusche

A nice, simple and affordable shower gel that smells very lovely tropically fresh (I described it before as similar to a grapefruit scent, but sweeter). Out of all summer LE by Balea this one is my favourite so far. 

Repurchase: It is a LE and I have enough of shower gels at the moment, so I suspect not.

ALVERDE Aroma Pflegeöl Kokos

I love these Alverde oils and I use them for so many things. This is my second or third bottle of this scent, which is a coconut muffin type of smell and it's ok, but I've grown a bit tired of it. One of the best features of this oil is the packaging, which is just perfect due to the brilliant pump.

Repurchase: Already did, but a different version.

BALANCE ME Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm 

I'm quite sad I've used this up. This is my favourite cleanser so far because it just suits my skin so well and it looks its best when I use it. It's a balm with scrubby particles and it cleans well, removes makeup and leaves the skin moisturised, so the dry patches are the thing of the past. It smells wonderful, the texture is nice and I love that it comes in a tube, which makes it very hygienic. The only bad side is that it's expensive. I have three other cleansers at the moment and none live up to it.

Repurchase: Yes.

NIVEA Anti-Perspirant Stress Protect

I actually liked this one. It worked ok for a spray deodorant and it smells pleasantly generically fresh, but I've used up this little 50 ml bottle in about a week or two. Currently I have the Pearl & Beauty version.

Purchase: Maybe.

 YVES ROCHER Mango and Passion Fruit eau de toilette

I'm a huge fan of tropical scents, with Escada's yearly LE's being my favourites, but this YR version was the one I never truly loved. It's a very simple, fresh, yet sweet scent that doesn't last particularly long and it does smell like a tropical drink with a prominent note of mango, while the passion fruit is more subdued. Both mango as well as passion fruit are my favourite scents in products, but in this combination it just didn't really work for me. 

Repurchase: No and I believe it's not available any more.

KATY PERRY Purr eau de parfum

This was a blind buy for me because it was 50 % off at the time of the purchase. It was never my favourite scent, but it's still a lovely, everyday fragrance. It's a mix of fresh bamboo, juicy apple and floral notes (gardenia, freesia) with subtle sweeter notes of coconut and vanilla that get more prominent with time. I think the bottle is adorable and I'll keep it as decoration.

Repurchase: No.

 L'OCCITANE Almond Shower Oil

Since 2007 there hasn't been a day when I was without this shower oil. I keep repurchasing it and I buy these eco-refills with 500 ml (that's two regular bottles) with which fill my old bottle. It's a fantastic shower oil and it provides a true pampering experience in the shower due to a super luxurious oil texture that transforms into a thick, creamy foam when water is added, not to mention that it smells bloody fantastic. It is a great product for those with dry skin as I find I never need to use a moisturiser afterwards. You should try it at least once in your life.  

Repurchase: Yes.

AVENE Cicalfate

This is just a simple, super thick ointment with panthenol (B5) for treating any type of damages on the skin from cuts, grazes and wounds. It was fine, nothing more to say about it.

Repurchase: I found something cheaper, so probably not.

ESSENCE 4 in 1 nail file

I buy these all the time. It's just regular nail file with four different textures that vary in roughness. It does its job and it does it well.

BADGER Cuticle Care

I never liked this for it's original purpose as I find it not moisturising enough for my cuticles and I am not a fan of the strange herbal-lemon scent, but I did love this for my very dry soles.

Repurchase: Probably not.

BALEA Hygiene Reinigungstűcher

I bought a few packs of these before even trying them out first and I'm not a fan of them. They are nice and thick, but they have a strong hospital-disinfectant scent and Preven's don't. They do their job, but I probably won't repurchase. 

Repurchase: Probably not, I prefer Preven's ones.

 MAX FACTOR Khol Eye Liner Pencil

20 Black

I used to like this one and before the gel/khol hybrids such as Supershock by Avon came on the market, it was one of my favourite khols, but now I find it not black enough, too smudgy and not long-lasting. It has nothing on my favourite black eyeliner UD's Zero.

Repurchase: No.

TIGI Curls Rock Curl Booster

After years of collecting dust, I'm finally tossing this away. I never got this product. Is it a hairspray that's just super wet or is it like a replacement for mousse? I tried using it in so many different ways and it did nothing. Curls Rock Amplifier, on the other hand, I loved and I've gone through several bottles (if you'd like to define your natural curls, try it). 

BALEA Body Spray Aqua

I used this on hot days as a refreshment and it worked a treat. I also sprayed this on my face, when my foundation/powder looked cakey. I really liked how the spray did a very fine mist and it never just dripped. However, I'm still not sold on the whole water in a can fad, so I've refrained from purchasing the more expensive version from pharmacy brands.

BALEA Hawaii Deospray

I really liked this version of scent and I've owned several cans, but it's now discontinued. These Balea ones are, as described, just deodorants, so fragrance in a can, rather than actual antiperspirants such as Nivea's, but they always have some nice scents.

BALEA Bodycreme Sunny Peach

I loved the scent of this - it was a good peach scent, but I didn't find it moisturising enough for my legs as the skin was dry again in the morning. It was simply too light. I presume the still existing coconut version is similar.

After almost four years of blogging and more that a million views, the day has finally come and I have created a Facebook page, Instagram as well as decided to finally start using my Twitter account (which is also four years old).
