BeautyUK Eden Palette

Just look at this palette - doesn't it look like the perfect collection of nude shades? I certainly think so and though, eyeshadows seldom grab my attention in shops, it was love at first sight. I was so looking forward to using it, but then I hit a wall of disappointment - the pigmentation. 

There are 10 eyeshadows in the palette, pretty much the collection of colours that appeal to me the most. They are all neutral shades, two are matte and the rest have a shimmery-satin finish. 

 In the top (1.) row there are 

1. a shimmery  light beige-rose shade (similar to Sin from the Naked palette) - poor pigmentation, I tend to apply it with fingers for intensity.

2. a perfect cool matte brown (similar to Mac's Wedge or Naked Palette's Naked) - the worst pigmentation in the palette, I barely get it to show up on me and I'm very pale.

3. a satin cream shade - just a classic highlight shade. I'm not a fan of such light shades in general, I prefer something warmer or pink.

4. a shimmery copper shade - best pigmentation in the palette and a nice shade for blue eyes.

5. a beautiful matte taupe-purple-brown - another poorly performing matte, though due to being a darker shade, better than the other matte one. I tend to use it in the crease a lot.

 And in the bottom (2.) row

1. a shimmery old green brown shade - besides the coppery shade, the other best performing shade in the palette.

2. a satin medium warm brown - disappointingly poor pigmentation for such a shade. 

3. a shimmery smoky silver

4. a shimmery white-silver (Mac's Vex like)

5. a shimmery purple-brown - not the best pigmentation, but can be used to deepen the crease and outer corners.

Pigmentation is, oh, it's so disappointingly poor on most shades, particularly on those that are my favourites. These eyeshadows feel in general quite dry and hard. Mattes perform especially poor, the second one in the top row for example, but shimmery shadows are a bit better, though again the light shades aren't impressive (like the first one in the top row). The only shades that are relatively soft and pigmented are the cooper shade in the top row and the old gold shade in the bottom row. I tried primer under it, but the vibrancy just isn't there at some shades, more expensive brushes don't help either, you just have to build up the colour, which takes a lot of time. You can create a natural look with it, but it's very difficult to get the same result that you might get from the Naked palette. 

These blend ok, however, due to poor pigmentation, the eyeshadows quickly start to look very similar when blended.

Honestly, that L'Oreal L'Ombre Pure eyeshadow I have that costs 9€ is miles better than this in terms of quality. I know it's a bad comparison and yes, it's more expensive, but I'm enjoying it a 100% more than I ever did this palette. I do try to use it at least for softer looks. Sleek palettes have a better pigmentation for a similar price and despite the fact that their eyeshadows have fall down if you want something good on a budget, I think they are a better choice. Eden palette is not by any means the worst palette I've tried, but it is clearly budget quality and has left me disappointed. Eyeshadows last me forever, so I'm willing to pay more to get great quality, this palette just proved me that I'm right.

I Heart Makeup I Heart Sin Palette

Honestly, this palette is miles away from my comfort zone. I'm very much a neutral girl at heart and though there are a few neutral shades, this is mostly a palette for those who revel in wearing bright colours. I <3 Makeup is a subsidiary brand of Makeup Revolution, from which I already reviewed one palette - Welcome to the Pleasure Dome, so it's not that surprising that the quality is pretty much the same.

There are 16 eyeshadows in the palette with a real mix of colours - purples, pinks greens, blues, neons and a couple of neutrals. The finishes range from shimmery/frosty to matte. Performance of shades differs from eyeshadow to eyeshadow with mattes generally performing poorer than shimmery/frosty ones.

Once an Angel - a skin tone shade with a satin finish. It has plenty of pay off, but is chalky and has drop down. Still it doesn't matter, since it's just a base/blending out shade and as that is works great.

Glorious Envy - pearly forest green. It's buttery soft, but needs to be built-up for intensity. It blends ok.

Bad Habit - matte dark purple with taupe tones. It's dry with poor pigmentation and chalky. I really build it up here, so it can be done, but it's a laborious process. 

Slave - silver. A basic silver shade that is buttery soft, though it could be a bit more pigmented.

Bad Boys - matte dark grey-green.  More pigmented than Bad Habit, but still chalky.

It Works for Me - matte fluorescent yellow-green - Awful shade, dry as a Sahara, chalky and impossible to build up. Worst performing shade in the palette and it doesn't work for me.

Jealous Eyes - pearly teal. It's soft and buttery with a good colour pay-off.

Future Proof - matte bright violet. Another difficult matte shade, though it can be built up by using fingers. Blends ok on the lids, but you lose much of the intensity.

Full Throttle - matte fluorescent pink. A lot better than It Works for Me as it's not as dry and it's similar in texture to Future Proof, but still the second most problematic shade.

Golden Gun - shimmery gold. One of the rare wearable shades for me, but it has left me a bit disappointed due to a poorer pigmentation. It can be built up.

Greed is Good - shimmery brown-bronze. One of the best performing shades in the palette due to the softness and nice pigmentation.

Colour Crime - satin magenta. Pigmentation is ok, which is surprising for such a shade.

Cross the Line - pearly polar blue. One of the best performing shades in the palette, soft, pigmented and blends well.

Want it All - pearly ice blue. Similar to Cross the Line, but slightly less pigmented. 

Self Indulgent - pearly blue-toned dark purple. Weak pigmentation and needs  a lot of layers to be built up.

Do it For Me - shimmery white. An ok shade that could be used as a highlighter, but it's a bit too stark white.

The packaging looks straight from the Barbie's essentials pack with the big violet heart crystal that makes the palette look ridiculously girly and immature, despite being on a glossy, sleek packaging. The general quality of the packaging is good, it's sturdy and secure, it even features a handy big mirror.   

It's a fairly average palette. As at most of these budget palettes the quality of the eyeshadows varies, with mattes performing worst, but some shimmery shades are very decent. I'd use a primer with these if you want nice staying power. This is a palette that will appeal to more brave individuals, something I unfortunately am not, but if you like to experiment with colours and don't want to spend much, this may be for you. Just keep in mind that neons and purples aren't the best in this palette.

L'Oreal Color Riche L'Ombre Pure 106 Breaking Nude

Lets talk about my recent love - L'Oreal Color Riche L'Ombre Pure in 106 Breaking Nude. Since I got it about a month ago, I rarely reached for another eyeshadow, actually on most days my eye makeup consisted of eyeliner and this in the crease. I was already a huge fan of L'Oreal's Infallible range, but since most of those shades are shimmery and I'm very much a matte girl at heart, these new L'Ombre Pure eyeshadows, which also include some matte shades, are right up my alley.

It combines all the good stuff of the Infallibles, so excellent pigmentation, texture and staying power, on top of that it's matte. The texture is absolutely perfect - similarly as at Infalibles it resembles pressed pigments making it very soft and pigmented, not to mention it blends like a dream. There is no chalkiness that appears to be the standard for matte drugstore eyeshadows - this is closer to Urban Decay/high-end quality. On me it doesn't crease, but I always put a face powder as a base. Basically, I just adore it.

The shade is a beautiful matte taupe, exactly the type of colour I love. I love wearing it in the crease  for more definition and it looks great all over the lid as well.

Granted, it's not the cheapest at 8.99 €, but it is definitely worth it. I'd love to have more shades, but those that interest me aren't available in my country, so I'll probably resort to Boots.

I highly recommend it.

Makeup Revolution Welcome to Pleasuredome

I am not completely convinced by the Makeup Revolution brand. Their liquid blush is really cute, but the rest left me a bit apathetic. This palette did spark more interest in me and I've been enjoying using it every day for the past month, though it was almost exclusively only the neutral part of the palette.

Welcome to the Pleasuredome contains 18 eyeshadows ranging from shimmery to matte finish and from neutrals to bright colours. I've only recently started getting more into more intricate eyeshadow looks and I am very much a neutral girl at heart, so for me the brights in this palette just won't get enough use. I'll discuss the quality and colour of each eyeshadow in detail, but in general it's a nicely pigmented palette, though certain shades perform better than others. Quality-wise they obviously feel of lesser quality than something from MAC or Urban Decay in a sense that they are less smooth and silky, but that doesn't mean that the quality of this palette isn't nice, it's just obviously drugstore. The eyeshadows in the top two rows are shimmery, soft and creamy, but can flake in the pan, while most matte shades in the bottom row are quite hard and dry. I find most of the shades are very easy to build up on the lid and they blend nicely.

I do have an issue with this palette, namely I can't wrap my head around why they decided to include two pairs of eyeshadows, which look so similar once applied on the lids that I can't justify putting both in one palette.  

Welcome to Pleasure Dome - light shimmery gold. A typical highlighting shade and it looks nice in the inner corners.

Xanadu - shimmery beige.  Looks similar on the lids to Sin from the Naked palette only less pink.

Moving On - dark shimmery beige. Just an average all-over the lid shade.

Using my Power - navy-cobalt blue. It has nice pigmentation and blends ok.

You Really Can't Afford Me - forest green. Similar quality to Using my Power. 

Even When They Reach The Top - aubergine with strong grey tones. It looks very different on the eyes, it is a lot more grey, but with a purple sheen. It's the least pigmented shade in the palette and needs a few layers, but blends well. However, I can't get it to stay intense on the lids as it just fades into light grey.

Where Lovers Roam - medium cool brown. It's very pigmented, so the brush picks up the colour easily and it blends very well. This is a spot on dupe for MAC's Satin Taupe on the lids as you will see at the bottom of the post. It's a lovely shade and my favourite in the palette.

Jungle Call - cool taupe brown-purple. Another very, very similar shade to Satin Taupe, swatched it looks just a bit more purple, but on the lids it looks exactly the same and it just too similar to Where Lovers Roam to have both in the palette. Nonetheless it's another one of my favourites. It's blends nicely and has good pigmentation.

Moving At Million Milles An Hour - warm, red-toned dark brown. It looks much darker in the pan than Where Lover Roam and Jungle Call, but I just can't match the intensity of the colour in the pan on the lids and it's actually lighter that Long Way From Home (second matte shade). It's my third favourite shade and one of those I use most.

Sell It By The Hour - sea foam green. The brush picks it up easily, but needs a few layers to get an intense colour on the lids. I have the same issues as with some other shades as it difficult to keep it intense, even with primer.

Shooting Stars Never Stop - antiqued gold shade. It's a much browner and darker version of MAC's Patina (again pictures at the end). It's very pigmented and blends easily, but the surface of the eyeshadow in the pan flakes.

There Goes A Supernova - another forest green that is not even that different from the one in the top row, it's just a touch lighter and less saturated.

What a Rush Over - matte, yellow-toned skin shade. Pigmentation is not the best and only a dense brush picks it up, however, I still use it as a blending shade, though it could be better.

Long Way From Home - very pigmented matte cool brown. The brush picks up the colour very fast and it needs to be wiped off before application. I have a bit of a problem with blending this shade nicely, nonetheless it's one of the most used shades as I apply it in the outer corner and crease.

Diamond by the Shower - matte cool taupe-grey. It has nice pigmentation, but I have the same issues as at Long Way From Home.

Love Your Body - matte violet taupe. A bit of a problematic shade because it's very difficult to get an even application and it looks too dark for wearing it on its own, but doesn't work well in the crease. I actually love the colour and I think it's very unique, but the quality could be better.

I Can Do it - smoky grey. It's pigmented and easy to pick up with the brush, but once it's blended it doesn't look that dissimilar to Diamond by the Shower.

Never Doing What I am Told - A charcoal black. It's intensely black, very pigmented and pretty much identical to blacks in Sleek palettes. It has fall down.

As I already said Where Lover Roam and Jungle Call are both good dupes for Satin Taupe on the lids. Can you spot any significant difference? I sure can't. 

The packaging is surprisingly good quality for the price, it's not at all flimsy and nothing is loose. The huge mirror is a big plus and the added applicators are fine for me. However, due to the glossy surface, every fingerprint shows.

Regarding staying power, without primer at the end of the day, at certain shades only a small line of eyeshadow is left in the crease and other shades do again crease, but don't completely disappear. I like to wear them with a primer underneath since they perform much better like that.

I didn't plan on posting these two pictures, since I wrongfully assumed that Patina is similar to Shooting Star Never Stop, but it would be a shame to just delete them.

It's a good affordable palette and a nice one if you're on a budget (or even if you're not). I only use the neutral part of the palette and even from those just the two Satin Taupe-like shades, the warm brown one in the second row and the matte brown shade in the third row. On occasions I shake it up a little and use one of the two medium neutral shades in the top row. Aren't I a risk taker? Honestly, I much prefer my Naked palettes and Mac eyeshadows as the quality is just that much better, though this one is rather nice and I really appreciate the Satin Taupe dupes. I miss a matte light brown-taupe crease/blending out shade in the palette, since though A Long Way from Home is just too dark.

L'Oreal Colour Infalible Eyeshadows

I've had this post ready for months now. I was looking at some of my old posts, when I was making the post directory and have decided that I need to reswatch my beloved L'Oreal Colour Infalible eyeshadows. I have six in my collection and before I got the Naked Basics palette, some of these shades were my most used eyeshadows.

These have pressed pigment/cream eyeshadow hybrid type of texture that is very smooth and ultra pigmented. I don't like to apply them with brushes because it's difficult to get colour on them, but I always apply them with fingers like cream eyeshadow. I get maximum pigmentation with pretty much one swipe and then blend the edges with a fluffy brush. Due to their strong pigmentation, they work excellently as liners. The formula is very longlasting, the longest out the all the eyeshadows I tried, but these do crease if your eyelids are oily after several hours. Applied as a liner they can last all day on my lids. All of the shades I own are very shimmery and maybe that's my only little gripe since I'm more of a matte girl.

002 Hourglass Beige - super shimmery very light gold. A great inner corner highlighter or lid shade if you want a very shimmery  glamorous look.

021 Sahara Treasure - soft golden taupe. This was my most worn lid shade.

024 Bronze Goddess - golden olive. Gorgeous colour, I often wear it as a liner.

012 Endless Chocolat - warm chocolate brown. I adore this shade, again I wear it loads as a liner. It looks particularly good on the lower lashline with my eye colour. 

015 Flashback Silver - silver with a lavender hue. I wanted something silver, but this isn't really what I was looking for.

005 Purple Obsession - purple with blue and purple shimmer. I got this as a gift. Purple isn't really my colour, so I don't tend to wear it.

Several shades aren't sold any more and there are loads of new shades. I was shocked to discover that Endless Chocolat isn't available here anymore, but I managed to track it down on Fragrance Direct. These cost about 8 € in drugstores here, but they are cheaper online. Also the names of US, Canadian and European shades are different. Nunu compiled a very handy list of all the different names of the same shades here.

Urban Decay Naked Basic Palette

I already said in my favourites that if I was allowed to own just one eyeshadow palette, this would be it. I'm not much of an eyeshadow person, mostly because my eyes are hooded and I see no point in applying anything else than an eyeliner, but Basic palette has been a part of my every day routine since I got it. For me this is the perfect palette, especially for an natural, polished every day look. There are several different possibilities of combining the colours, but my favourite way of using it is: W.O.S. as a base, Naked 2 on the lid, Faint in the outer corner, Crave as a liner and Venus in the inner corner. 

Excuse the lousy swatches, but the colours are accurate despite the blueish tint of the skin. The ones of the finger tips are better:

The quality of the eyeshadows is very nice. I'm a fan of matte eyeshadows and these are smooth, blend really well and are nicely pigmented. They remind me a lot of Catrice's matte shade I own called 350 Starlight Expresso, but they are less buttery than ArtDeco 551, which is a matte skin tone shade.

Venus is the only non-matte shade in the Basic palette. Both Venus and Virgin (Urban Decay Naked) are highlighting shades with an iridescent finish. Virgin is pinker than Venus, yet on the eyes the difference is undetectable and both are excellent shades for highlighting the inner corners. In fact they are best I've found so far because they are both quite subtle and nice for every day (though Mac's Vanilla pigmented is super lovely as well).

Foxy and W.O.S. are the two blending shades. I like how they included two such colours in the palette since I used them the most (I have mentioned in my everyday makeup post that I use MUA's 16 every day). Foxy is yellow toned, while W.O.S. is pink toned, however, the difference on the eyes is to my eye minute.
ArtDeco 551 is almost a spot on dupe for W.O.S., while MUA matte eyeshadow in 16 is pinker, but again the difference is not that visible on the eyes, after all, they are blending shades.

Naked 2 is a light taupe shade and my favourite. I've been on a search for such a shade for years, but most were either too warm or too grey.
Naked from the original palette is less grey and warmer, while the only other similar shade I own, MAC's Wedge is more brown and much warmer. All are excellent crease colours, however, I mostly use them as lid colours. 

Faint is a dark cool brown shade which is very pigmented.
Revlon's Rich Sable is darker and cooler, as is a similar shade from Sleek's Storm palette (the one next to black). Buck from the original palette is much warmer.

Crave is a matte black and very pigmented. I use it as a liner.

Nxy's Black is even darker, while the black eyeshadow from a Sleek palette is very similar to Crave. Creep from the original palette is a dark smokey grey with shimmer.

The packaging is great, well made and with a really handy big mirror. The palette is about the size of a smartphone, so a nice size to carry around. The only odd thing I noticed about the eyeshadows is the weird scent. I only notice it when I use the mirror in the palette because they are close to me, but it's not bothersome.

I got mine on Look Fantastic for 19.50 €, but regular price is about 23 €. I don't find it too expensive for such a great collection of quality matte eyeshadows that I used every day. I'm really happy that it's a part of my collection.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Permanent Taupe

I never really planned to get any of these Color Tattoos, mainly because I have too many eyeshadows and I rarely wear any apart from Nyx's black as a liner and a matte skin colour as an all-over wash. However, as soon as I swatched this colour, I was taken aback by it's beauty. I have a thing for taupe eyeshadows, because I find they work great with my eye and skin colour. It's a grey-brown shade, actually an equal mix of the two and such shades bring out the blue in my eyes. It's a matte shade, which makes me love it even more and I've been wearing it a lot since I got it.

I was very impressed by the staying power. When I swatched them in the shop, they didn't budge after they dried and I couldn't wipe them off, I had to use water and soap. My lids are dry-ish and this lasts very well on me. I didn't actually ever pay attention to how many hours it lasts, but it survives at least 8 hours. Towards the end of the day, it fades a lot, but there is still some colour left close to my lash line where I apply most of the colour. 

I don't need to use a lot and it is quite pigmented, but I have to layer it to get the desired intensity. It blends nicely, I like to apply it with fingers, it's quick, easy and gets the job done. These are great for a quick eye makeup when you're in a hurry.

Compared to Essence Stay All Day and Catrice Made to Stay, I find the texture similar to Catrice's, but the Maybelline's one feel like they have more (or better) silicones in it. I would like to commend Maybelline for creating a matte shade, I hope Catrice and Essence will follow in their footsteps. 

I read somewhere that it is a good contouring colour, but I find it way too grey and cool, it will make you look like a corpse rather than a babe with awesome cheekbones. 

This shade makes a great base for eyeshadows and I like using it with Catrice Starlight Expresso (a gray-taupe shade). It is one of my favourite shades and I use it to do makeup very similar to this one - click, just adjusted to my eye shape. It's my version of a simple daytime smokey eye. It works well as a base with other darker colours, such as Smog from the Naked palette.

I paid 4.95€ for it, which is a reasonable price for such a good eyeshadow. I believe there are 8 shades available here, most are shimmery and I'm not really drawn to the colours. I like On and on Bronze, but I find Copy Right by Essence too similar to have two. Two Slovene bloggers swatched other shades available in Slovenia: Passing Fancy and The Puzzle of Sandra's Life.

Sleek i-Divine Palette Sunset

The colours of the sunset packed into one palette. The moment I opened it, I thought these shades are perfect for blue eyes. It's a nice mix of wearable, everyday shades and some statement colours. Most of the shades are very warm toned with exception of the bright blue and black. All are iridescent, only black is matte. Sleek palettes have one of the best black eyeshadows I've ever found. It's a really pigmented charcoal black that I use everyday for an invisible liner. Textures differ from shade to shade, the 3rd shade on the top is very, very soft, almost like butter, while black is the hardest. All are very pigmented and you get a lot of colour pay-off, however, they have a bit of a fall out. They blend nicely and last long on the lids, but I do get some creasing after a few hours.

Barve sončnega zahoda zbrane v eni paletki. Takšni odtenki so super za poudarjanje modrih oči. Moje so mešanica med sivo, modro ter zeleno in takšni topli odtenki z oranžnimi, rumeni in rdečkastimi toni naredijo moje oči bolj modre. Paletka ima lepo kombinacijo nosljivih in bolj živih odtenkov, ki pa so večinoma topli, z izjemo modre in črne. Vsi odtenki so zelo pigmentirani, tekstura pa je odvisna od odtenka. Na primer, tretji odtenek v zgornji vrsti je zelo, zelo mehek, že skoraj kot kakšno kremno senčilo, medtem ko je črna najmanj mehka. Vsi odtenki imajo svetleč/bleščičast finiš razen črne, ki je mat. Sleekova črna senčka, ki je v večini paletk, je ena izmed najboljših črnih kar se jih našla. Je izjemno pigmentirana, prava črna, kakšno uporabljam vsak dan za t.i. efekt nevidnega eyelinerja. Ker so tako mehke, padajo na lička, če dobro ne otreseš čopiča. Senčke se lepo blendajo in  zdržijo dolgo na vekah, ampak mi malenkost zlezejo v gubo po nekaj urah nošenja.

The 1st in the second row in my favourite. It's a plum-brown shade that is in the same colour family as Satin Taupe, but with more plum. 

Prva barva v drugi vrsti je moja najljubša. Je rjav odtenek s pridihi slive, ki je kot nekakšen bratranec Macovemu odtenku Satin Taupe. 

I also own Storm and the Original palette that I got from London three years ago.
